Future of healthcare round-table in Portugal

To promote the discussion about the future of healthcare systems in Europe, Janssen Portugal gathered 30 Key Opinion Leaders in Healthcare in a Round-Table. This event entitled “The Future of Healthcare in Europe – the Portuguese perspective” was held in Lisbon on 12 May.

The idea came up after the presentation of “The Future of Healthcare in Europe”, a study conducted by “The Economist” and sponsored by Janssen, that points out five possible scenarios for the future of healthcare systems in Europe.

Janssen Portugal invited the coordinator of the study to come to Lisbon and present the study to local representatives from Hospitals Management, Medical Societies, Universities, Patients’ Associations, Regulatory Agents and the Government. Former Minister of Economy Professor Augusto Mateus presented his own study about “Sustainability and Competitiveness for Healthcare in Portugal”, and the discussion was brought to the table.

For over 90 minutes, Round-Table participants, inspired by the presentations, shared their experiences, suggestions and ideas to improve Portuguese Healthcare System’s sustainability. At dinner, everyone agreed that this meeting was an excellent initiative and very productive.

The initiative is not stopping here, since a group of writers is preparing a Conclusions Report with the main ideas and overall conclusions of this meeting. The document will later be sent to governmental agents in the healthcare sector, as a vision for the future of healthcare in Portugal in 2030.
