Janssen chairs PhRMA Europe Committee

Jane Griffiths, Group Company Chairman of Janssen EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa), has been elected as the Chair of the Europe Committee of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).  Through this nomination she will also co-chair the joint Executive Committee of PhRMA and EFPIA (European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations).

“The election of Jane demonstrates the appreciation of the efforts of Janssen to tackle the future challenges of pharmaceutical development such as financing R&D, global access to medicines for patients and the budgetary constraints facing the industry.  Janssen works through its industry associations to create better understanding amongst government stakeholders for the value pharmaceutical companies create”, says Anne Papin, Executive Director Governments Affairs Europe, Janssen.

The development and bringing to market of pharmaceuticals is increasingly subject to global dynamics: the joint Executive Committee of PhRMA/EFPIA helps the industry to set strategic priorities in the EU with a view to global evolutions in the industry.

The PhRMA represents the United States’ leading pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies and their Europe Committee is a body that brings together leaders of the European organisations of these US companies.  EFPIA represents the pharmaceutical industry operating in Europe.  Janssen and Johnson & Johnson are strongly represented in the different committees and other bodies of EFPIA.

Janssen feels it has a role to play in the dialogue with authorities, both in regional and national settings.  The company is active in industry associations in many countries.
