
Janssen signed a collaboration agreement with Medivir to discover and develop drugs for the prophylaxis and treatment of dengue virus infection.
Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection. Dengue virus infection is a major problem in subtropical regions and continues to spread. In 2009, 220 million people were infected with dengue, 2 million were hospitalized and 21,000 people died of the disease. 90% of those affected in the severest cases, were children.
